A total of 455 confirmands from St. Francis of Assisi Kamutei Parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation during a solemn celebration of Holy Mass presided over by Rt. Rev. John Mwandi, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.

Prior to the celebration of Holy Mass, Bishop Mwandi blessed the newly acquired land for St. Theresa Junior Academy, an institution owned by the parish. He also marked the beginning of the construction works through a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. In the spirit of Laudato Si’, the Bishop planted a tree, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to caring for our common home.

In his homily, Bishop Mwandi reminded the confirmands that the Holy Spirit drives away fear and fills Christians with strength and courage to pray, protect and defend their faith. He explained that the Holy Spirit bestows different gifts and fruits that empower believers to live out their Christian calling.

He advised the newly confirmed to become true witnesses of Christ and active agents of evangelization in their communities. He noted that through their good deeds and exemplary Christian lives, they could touch the hearts of others and inspire them to follow Christ.

The Bishop also reminded parents, guardians and the entire Christian community of their responsibility to nurture and strengthen the faith of the newly confirmed. He urged them to provide good examples and guide them towards practices that deepen their relationship with God, such as prayer, acts of mercy and active participation in Church activities.

Reflecting on God’s blessings, Bishop Mwandi reminded the faithful not to take them for granted. He observed that some blessings may appear ordinary at first but, upon reflection, are recognized as special graces and opportunities granted by God. He advised everyone to use these blessings to serve God and reach out to those in need within society.

He further reminded the confirmands that living a Christian life is not always easy and requires patience, perseverance and a firm commitment to the faith.

In his continued emphasis on strengthening Christian families, the Bishop encouraged couples who have not yet solemnized their marriages in the Church to do so, noting the importance of marriage in building strong and supportive Christian families.

In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Andrew Kausya expressed his appreciation to the parishioners for their continued support and contribution to the growth of the parish. He encouraged them to remain committed and continue serving the Church with courage and dedication.

Kamutei Parish was officially opened on 20th January 2024 by Bishop Joseph Mwongela, with 15 outstations. Since its establishment, the parish has grown to 24 outstations spread across seven zones. The first parish priest was Rev. Fr. Simon Peter Kitute. The parish is currently under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Andrew Kausya, assisted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Mutisya.
