BISHOP MWONGELA OPENS SECOND DOOR OF HOPE

His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela has opened the second “Door of Hope” at Our Lady of Africa Cathedral, Kitui, during the third Mass. This follows the opening of the first “Door of Hope” at Mutomo Parish on December 29, 2024.

The event aligns with the Jubilee of Hope, declared by Pope Francis on May 9, 2024, through his bull of indiction Spes Non Confundit (Hope Does Not Disappoint). The Jubilee, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” began on December 24, 2024, and will run until January 6, 2026.

In his message, Bishop Mwongela has called on the faithful to nurture resilience and embrace hope, even in the face of life’s challenges. “Nothing in life is easy, but the greatest problem is losing hope too easily,” he said. “Be like a candle in the wind. No journey is without its storms, yet our struggles should teach us resilience and help us stand firm.” Drawing inspiration from Nelson Mandela, he urged the faithful to rise above limitations and grow stronger through adversity. “You grow and outgrow the limitations of who you are and what you do,” he said.

Bishop Mwongela further encouraged those in various roles to bring others on board and rejoice when they excel, emphasizing the importance of mentorship. “Don’t think you are eternal; your time here on earth is short. Do what you are supposed to do and do it now. The best you can do is to mentor those who will come after you, and if need be, prepare them even while you are still present,” he advised. He highlighted that true leadership extends beyond titles and formal positions. “Even outside official roles, you can show us the kind of leader you are and achieve even more. Leadership is not about the title but the impact you make,” he added.

He also urged the faithful to embrace forgiveness, reconciliation, and the will of God. “Passing through this Door of Hope is a call to pray, forgive, reconcile, find happiness, and renew your commitment to God’s will. Let hope guide your actions, and do not let negativity, like Herod, take hold of your heart,” he said.

Other “Doors of Hope” are set to be opened at Our Lady of Protection Museve and Good Shepherd Mwingi churches.
