BISHOP MWONGELA LEADS PASTORAL VISIT TO ST. JOSEPH’S JUNIOR SEMINARY, MWINGI

It has been a memorable day as the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, led by Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Mwongela, conducted a pastoral visit to St. Joseph’s Junior Seminary, Mwingi.

The visit began with a tree-planting exercise, symbolizing the Diocese’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. This was followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and generous show of support towards the seminary.

The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen and support the institution in its journey toward self-reliance, a noble initiative that began in 2024. During the event, funds were raised alongside donations of assorted food items, including maize, beans, rice, and cooking oil, among others.

In his homily, Bishop Joseph Mwongela emphasized the importance of creativity and responsibility. He cautioned against destroying what one cannot create and urged the faithful not to burden others further when they are already in need. “Joy and happiness shared is joy and happiness increased; sorrow shared is sorrow lessened. If you have a problem, share it with someone who can help you,” the Bishop said.

He further called on all to embrace creativity and innovation in their daily lives, urging them to build rather than destroy and to care for the environment. He challenged the faithful to move beyond lamentation and instead take practical steps toward positive change.

Addressing the young people, he urged them to make meaningful use of their time and opportunities. He encouraged them to believe in themselves and strive to make a difference in their communities, reminding them that the time to act is now. “Make hay while the sun shines. The time is now. I do not want to meet you when I am very old and then look at you and say you are a disappointment because you did nothing when you were supposed to do something,” the Bishop said.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of the Valley of Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37), the Bishop encouraged resilience and action even in difficult times. “When things are tough, tighten your belts—not just to remain there, but go out and work. Do something to make things better. Look for a way, through calmness, to act,” he said.

Bishop also strongly emphasized on unity and solidarity to the clergy, religious and faithful saying: “Never forget our unity and solidarity; they will take us far, and people will come from far to benchmark with us.”

The school Rector, Rev. Fr. Andrew Nzule, appreciated the Bishop for the noble initiative to support the school and promised faithful stewardship of resources and proper management of the institution.

The Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. John Mwandi, expressed his optimism in the new Rector, noting that he will take the school to greater heights. He also assured him of his support to ensure the smooth running and continued growth of the school.

Thank you to all the parishioners, Clergy, Religious and individuals of goodwill for their participation in this significant occasion, and for their generous support and solidarity toward St. Joseph’s Junior Seminary and the broader mission of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.
