The Catholic Diocese of Kitui has joyfully celebrated the ordination of 4 new priests and 13 deacons today, marking a historic moment as it is the first time the diocese has ordained such a large number at once. The colourful ceremony, presided over by Bishop Joseph Mwongela, drew thousands of faithful from across the diocese. Now the diocese has 102 active priests and 15 deacons.
In his homily, Bishop Mwongela encouraged the faithful to embrace self-reliance and support vocations in the Church. He thanked the people for their continued support and urged clergy, religious, and laity alike to work together in unity, highlighting the importance of collaboration and integrity.
Addressing the newly ordained and young priests, the bishop expressed the diocese’s high hopes in them, “You are called to inspire and bring joy to all the people. As you go to your parishes, bring new initiatives and positive change,” he said.
He urged the clergy to serve with humility and encouraged them to respect the laity, foster unity and collaboration, and never be a burden to the people they serve.
The newly ordained priests and deacons have been assigned to serve in different parishes across the diocese.
