The mass was celebrated by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela at St. Joseph’s Junior Seminary. The parish council decided to host the mass at St. Josephs so that they may fully follow MoH set guidelines on Covid 19 and also give more Christians an opportunity to attend as well as participate in the mass.
In his homily, the bishop urged all to condemn the vices which are taking us back as a church, family, country and Community. “We must fight drug abuse , corruption and any other sort of evil which is taking us backward.” He said. He also urged the faithful to have hope and patience in all their undertakings. “No matter how hard life is, God will have to bless you one day if you have the patience to wait,” he said. The Bishop emphasized on the importance of investing in education and especially to the children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
Addressing the congregation after the mass, the Bishop challenged all to take good care of the various vocations which they have responded to. He expressed his desire of seeing more young boys responding to the call of priesthood. He also talked about self reliance and appreciated all for their dedication in ensuring that the diocese of Kitui makes a greater mile stone of self reliance. “Let self reliance start with you before you embark on supporting other activities. Once your families are strong, the church will also be strong,” he said.
Fr. Michael Ngunia who is the father in charge, promised that together with the Mwingi faithful they will continue supporting the bishop in his pastoral work. He appreciated the faithful for their tireless efforts in ensuring that they fulfil the mission of Christ of evangelization.
As a way of taking care of the environment, Hon. Charles Ngusya Nguna (MP Mwingi West) urged the faithful to take advantage of the rains and plant more trees. On Wednesday, his office planted 200 trees at Nguutani catholic church compound.
Hon. Gideon Mulyungi, MP Mwingi Central said he is ready to support the Diocese of Kitui through the local churches in realization of her dreams.
The Holy mass was attended by Rev. Fr. Michael Ngunia (father in charge, Mwingi parish), Fr. Jeremiah Munyoki ( Rector St. Joseph’s), Fr. Flavian Mwendwa (curate Mwingi parish) Fr. Paul Mutemi, Seminarians, Brothers, Lay people, Hon. Charles Ngusya Nguna (MP Mwingi West), Hon. Dr. Gideon Mulyungi ( MP Mwingi Central) Bernard Sila (Former MCA) among other dignitaries.
