It was an emotional moment as the Diocese of Kitui gathered at Mutune parish for the burial of the late Rev. Fr. Edward Mutia Richard who died on 6th November 2020 while undergoing treatment at Matter Hospital. Rev. Fr. Edward Mutia was a priest ordained in 2012 and incardinated into the Diocese of Kitui.
The Funeral mass was led by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela.
In his homily, Bishop Mwongela eulogized Fr. Edward Mutia as a priest who was dedicated as well as loved his priestly work especially working with the youth. He also urged the faithful to lead a holy life in preparation for their eternal life. The Bishop also called upon all the faithful to adhere to MOH COVID -19 set guidelines saying that it’s only through doing so that we will be able to overcome the Corona Pandemic.
He urged all to take care of different vocations which they have responded and challenged the youth to come out in high numbers and pursue their vocations without fear as Fr. Mutia did.
Fr. Edward was born in 1980 in Mutune Parish and ordained to the Holy Orders in 2012. Until his demise, he was working at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish Mwingi as a curate as well as chaplain of St. Augustine Mwingi Boys Secondary School. Fr. Edward was also serving as the Northern Deanery Youth Chaplain.
There were vigil Masses that took place on 17th November 2020 in various parishes before his burial where the faithful prayed for the repose of his soul. The late was buried at the diocesan cemetery for priests at Mutune parish in Kitui Diocese.
