Thousands of Catholic and non-catholic faithful congregated at St. Angelas Girls Secondary School grounds on 28th December 2017 for a requiem Mass for the late Rev. Fr. Jacob Mbiti who was a priest ordained and incardinated into the Diocese of Kitui. Until his demise, the late Fr. Jacob Mbiti was working as curate at Nguutani Parish as well as the youth chaplain, northern deanery.
The Mass was led by His Grace Anthony Muheria, the archbishop of the catholic diocese of Nyeri who is also the apostolic administrator of Kitui Diocese.
In his homily, Archbishop Muheria eulogized Fr. Jacob as a priest who was dedicated as well as loved his priestly work especially working with the youth. He reminded the faithful about the rite of ordination whereby a priest fully submits to the will of God and Fr. Jacobs death prefigured. He also urged the faithful to lead a holy life in preparation for their eternal life.
There were vigil Masses that took place the night before his burial where faithful kept vigil as they prayed for the soul of the late at our Lady of Africa Cathedral, Kitui on 27th Dec 2017 at 6pm, 9pm, 12am and 3am.
