Diocesan Accountant

Vacancy                 DIOCESAN ACCOUNTANT

Catholic Diocese of Kitui is currently looking for a qualified Accountant.

Reporting to the Financial Administrator, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the maintenance of strong and working Internal control system within the diocese and in her institutions and making recommendations on weaknesses for improvement;
  • Overseeing timely financial reporting to donors, partners and diocesan management to aide informed decision making;
  • Examination of monthly Diocesan payroll;
  • Taking part in diocesan and donor related budgeting and budgetary controls;
  • Advising on best financial management and investment options ;
  • Providing due diligence support on acquisition of financial and fixed assets
  • Coordinating projects evaluations and external financial audits;
  • Advising on taxation issues and cost effectiveness;
  • Participating in decisions as to the appropriate human resource policies and recruitment needs of the diocese;
  • Ensuring that the accounting system forms a reliable basis from which to prepare accounts  ;
  • Designing and improving existing accounting templates for transaction processing with the objective of reflecting all the required information and approvals;
  • Supervising the work of  project  accountants to ensure efficient management of project funds and compliance with contract obligations;

Requirements

  1. Should have a Business related degree with a major preferably in accounting, from a recognised University
  2. Must be a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya CPA( K ) with a good professional standing,
  3. Should have at least 5  years experience, 2 of which should be at Senior Accounting/ Auditing level,
  4. Proficiency in computerised accounting and use of standard computer applications
  5. Substantial experience in managing  complex financial transactions and establishing effective financial control and reporting systems
  6. Strong management and team building skills
  7. Ability to operate independently and meet strict deadlines
  8. Excellent interpersonal, networking, presentation, oral and written communication skills
  9. Must be a person of high integrity who inspires the same in others,
  10. Must be conversant with catholic social teachings
