Caritas Kenya Drought response team together with the Caritas Kitui staff Donated food stuff and clothes to the displaced families from Sosoma/Mwanzele sub locations in Kitui County due to the ongoing clashes between the Kambas and pastoralists from Garissa County over water and Pasture. The donations were given out to Caritas Drought Appeal during the Lenten Campaign Launch held on 25th February at University of Nairobi Grounds.
About 100 families have fled their homes and are living in the bush around Sosoma and have neither shelter nor food to eat. The elderly, the sickly, children and the mothers are suffering and are in need of assistance with basic necessities such as food, water and medicine.
The conflict has been triggered by the continued drought which has forced pastoralists from Garrissa County to move into the densely forested Sosoma area with their livestock.
