The empowerment program is now back and it’s dealing with agriculture. The main objective is to improve food security in Kitui Diocese especially in Mulutu, Kanyangi and Kavisuni parishes through sustainable agricultural practices.
It deals with organic farming and include creating awareness among the communities on the effects brought about by the use agro chemicals such as inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. It targets small Christian communities as the direct beneficiaries with each parish registering 60 households for the project. Other than training on organic farming and sustainable agriculture, the beneficiaries will also be trained on conflict resolutuions, leadership, group dynamics, soil protection, water harvesting and management as well as project management.
So far eight small Christian communities have been registered for the projects; Mulutu has 2 SCCS, Kanyangi has 3 SCCs and Kavisuni 3SCCs. Trainings have already started with all the 8 SCCs trained on leadership, during the month of April. The project staffs include the project coordinator (Fr. Joseph Kongo) project officer and two field animators.
