FROM BISHOP MUHERIA

MESSAGE AFTER FUNERAL OF ARCHBISHOP LELE: THANK YOU!
My dear Christians,
Today is a historical day. We have accompanied our dear Archbishop Lele in his last earthly journey, and also accompanied him in his final heavenly journey. With prayers, with a wonderful simply celebrated mass, with the presence of over 20 bishops, and over 25.000 faithful. That was a statement of faith!

Last night as a people of Kitui, we were able to offer a mass at 8 pm for his soul in the Holy Ghost cathedral, with his body present. Another truly moving occasion. Kitui was well represented in today's ceremony, with over 50 priests from Kitui and over 500 Christians, young and old especially our CWA women ; so many sisters and brothers from Kitui and those working in kitui; the Leaders from kitui led by the Governor, his wife and officials, the speaker of county assembly, some MCAs, the former VP, cabinet secretary Madam Ngilu... and others.

I am so grateful and feel proud of all of you who made this effort, a final show of respect and love to one who deserved it, for his love and dedication. I thank God for being part of this delegation that represented so many others who were not able to be present, and would have wished to be there... Thank thank you the people of kitui! Thank you the Christians of Kitui for this gesture... and I urge you to continue to pray for him, and to continue his legacy.

We thank God for the peace with which we celebrated the funeral, in spite of the fears of attacks... Really God is in control! and as the Easter message urges us, as Christ appears to the apostles, he says:"peace be with you" "do not be afraid, it is I". We must not be afraid! Not afraid to witness Christ, to proclaim him, and as the Archbishop did, do not be afraid of serving him in the poor and neglected of the world.

Thank you young people who were also present in good numbers! Finally I want to thank our priests, who really have witnessed the priestly solidarity to many others. Young and old were all there, because we felt we must be there. Thank you, and let us keep this legacy of unity, as we lay our pioneer and elder, father and mentor, bishop and friend to rest.

Dear Christians of kitui, let us continue this love, and God will certainly bless us, and protect us! May you all be consoled by our mother Mary. Eternal rest grant to him oh lord! and let perpetual light shine on him! may he rest in peace. Amen

Sincerely
Bishop Anthony Muheria
